Do-It-Yourself Beware!

The Dangers of Do-It-Yourself Pest Control Products

Bugs are everywhere in the news and consumers are looking for solutions. They’re searching the internet for that magic bullet. Of course the internet is full of answers, but it doesn’t distinguish between good and bad choices. The bed bug pandemic is a perfect opportunity for scam artists to take advantage of people who are desperate for help. So keep these tips in mind.

  • Ordering pesticides off the internet is a bad idea. DON’T DO IT!

  • You have no way of knowing what you are really buying.

  • Pesticides banned in the US are often still available in other countries.

  • Sellers may intentionally misrepresent their products as all bug solutions, when in fact; they are worthless in controlling certain bugs.

  • Some products should not be used indoors, or around pets, and no product should be used around babies, small children or people with health problems.

  • Most insecticides are not effective at killing all types of bugs, or they kill bugs very slowly.

  • Products sold in stores for agricultural use should never be used in homes.

If you choose to use an over-the-counter pesticide for bugs, or any other insect, remember - the label is there to ensure your health and safety.

If the product is not labeled for the type of bugs you want control of or not labeled for the treatment area, do not use it. Doing so puts people and pests at risk.

Over-application or misapplications are real problems. Follow the label exactly. More is not better and can cause severe health problems for you!

There are safe and effective ways to eliminate bugs. We encourage you to contact us, we will outline all the options available to you: traps, steam, dusts, aerosols, baits, sprays, granules, exclusion and monitors.

When choosing a pest management company you should ask the following….

Are they licensed, Bonded and Insured?

Have they been in the business at least 5 years?

Do they do background checks on their employees?

Do they guarantee their service?

Do they require their people to maintain a high standard of continuing education in the pest management field?

Will they call to set up service appointments?

Are they prompt, friendly and professional?

Rest assured when you ask The Bug Guy these questions, we can answer with a solid YES.
